The fear of losing sight is common as it affects nearly all aspects of life. A research conducted by the team found that people would feel afraid and lost if they suddenly lost their sight. This is supported by a paper by Diego De Leo (1999) that states that visually-impaired persons have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts. However, many visually-impaired persons can eventually overcome their fear and depression. Based on this research, our team of four has decided to create a narrative-driven game that follows the journey of a narrator who has become blind but has learned to cope with it. The game will take the player through the narrator's initial fear and confusion and show how he coped with his depression and learned to navigate his city through sound. The aim of the game is to help the player empathize with the blind character and send a message that losing sight isn't the end and they can still lead a full life.

Gameplay Overview Reel

  • Design a narrative-driven game that incorporates Ommetaphobia themes.

  • Provide the player with a first-person view of the game world via the eyes of the narrator, who suffers Ommetaphobia.

  • Transport the player on a journey that depicts the narrator's initial anxiety and uncertainty after losing their sight.

  • Teach the player how the narrator dealt with anxiousness and learned to navigate their environment using other senses.

  • Forge an emotional bond between the player and the blind character.

  • Deliver a good message that living with Ommetaphobia is conceivable and that living a full life is still possible.
