Project Design Goals

"Within Reach" is a third-person rock-climbing game that combines the thrill of adventure with the challenge of extreme sports. Inspired by the psychological concept of motivation, the game design aims to create a balanced gameplay experience that is easy to learn but difficult to master. Players take on the role of a rock-climbing enthusiast and are tasked with reaching greater heights with each attempt as they climb a forest-themed mountain peak. The game measures the player's motivation by recording their highest score, which serves as the obstacle to beat in future climbs. With the introduction of a goal mark on the mountain, the game aims to increase player motivation to replay and improve their skills and completion time. The game starts with a tutorial that teaches basic and advanced controls, followed by the main level where players climb the mountain and set their personal best height. The game features a dynamic HUD that displays the player's health bar, current height, and highest height reached. Using Unreal Engine terrain and landscape tools, the game boasts a realistic and visually-stunning mountain setting.
